Step 1 Free talk
1. Ask students a question“Can you tell me a day that is meaningful to you?”and then continue to ask “what’s special about it?” Encourage the students to share their unforgettable experiences.
2. Next show the students a picture and say,“I think everyone of us should remember this day—8 August, 2008,because Beijing held the 29th Olympic games for the first time on that day.”Show them the new words meaningful and Olympic games.
3. Tell the students that the Olympic games includes different kinds , such as winter Olympics, Youth Olympic Games , Paralympic games and so on. Ask the students to guess the meaning of “Paralympic games”, then Lead to the teaching of the new words.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Look and learn
T: Now, let’s look at some pictures about the people who need help. Use a group of pictures to teach the new words. Read the new words for several times, try to remember them.
2. Match and discuss
(1) Match the words with their meanings.
People who can see nothing—blind people
People who cannot hear anything—deaf people
People who are too old to look after themselves—elderly people;
People who have no places to live—homeless people
People who have little money—poor people;
There is something wrong with people’s bodies—disabled people
3. Finish the exercise in Part A
T: Here are some pictures of the people who need help. Write the correct words under the pictures. Then put a tick in the boxes if you have ever helped these people.
4. Watch a group of pictures and talk about what you have done to help people who need help in small groups.
