The two sentences have the same meaning. Read the two sentences and think about the differences between them.

1.T:There are two voices, one is the active voice, the other is the passive voice.
Look at the sentences on the left, the subjects perform the actions, we call them active voice. Look at the sentences on the right, the subjects are acceptors of the actions, we call them passive voice. Today we will learn passive voice.
Ss: Listen carefully.
T: Do you know when to use passive voice? Please read the three sentences and find out the answers on page98 in your books. Now open your books, turn to page 98.

T:There are three cases to use the passive voice. The first case is when it is obvious who performs the action,we use the passive voice . It means we can know who performs the action easily;The second case is we don’t know or we don’t need to know who performs the action; The second case is that the action is more important than the person who performs the action,It means we pay more attention to the action.
Ss:Answer loudly.
T:We have known when to use passive voice,now let’s learn how to use passive voice.Look at the two sentences, they have the same meaning.But one is the active voice, the other is the passive voice.How to change the active voice into the passive voice? Look at the first sentence,can you find out the subject,the verb and the object?
Ss: The subject is volunteer doctors,the verb is do,the object is operations.
T:This sentence is active voice.What about the second sentence?
Ss: The subject is operations ,the verb is are done,the object is volunteer doctors.
T:Have a careful look.The object in the active voice becomes the subject in the passive voice; The subject in the active voice becomes the object in the passive voice;
The verb “do” in the active voice becomes “are done” in the passive voice.We should add “by” in front of the object in the passive voice.
