Step 1 Warm up (3 mins)

(The free talk is served as a warm-up for the topic of this lesson and the following tasks.)

Step 2 Presentation (22 mins)

Show Ss the information of four charities to educe passive voice in the simple present and past tenses.

1. ORBIS

Present the logo of ORBIS and encourage Ss to guess what the International charity does to help people. Ask Ss to read the passage about ORBIS and answer the questions “What is the plane called?” “What else is the plane used as?” “How many patients were operated on during Dr Ma’s last visit?” by using passive voice in the simple present and past tenses. When passive voice should be used will be introduced to Ss as well.

The question “Who do operations on the plane?”is asked to tell Ss that we can also introduce who or what performs an action in the passive voice using “by” which is put after the verb.

While using passive voice, Ss should be reminded that the preposition after the verb cannot be left out.

(The presentation aims to elicit passive voice in the simple present and past tenses.)
