Step 1: Lead in

Some pictures of beautiful views in Switzerland will be shown to students to arouse their interest in this country.

Brain storm: Students share something they know about the country. Teacher will offer some help with pictures.

Step 2: While reading

Overall reading

Students read the article by themselves to find the relative summary sentence to each paragraph.

Detailed reading

Para 1

Students try to find the key word beauty in the summary sentence.

A short video will be shown to students to enjoy the beauty of Switzerland and help students get some reasons to answer why they think Switzerland is beautiful.

Students find the supporting sentence in paragraph 1 and read it beautifully together to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Para 2

Students try to find the key word recycling in the summary sentence.

Read in groups and discuss to find out what can be recycled and how they are recycled, especially old clothes.

Para 3

Students try to find the key word laws in the summary sentence.

Read this para in 2 or 3 to look for their answers and fill in the blanks about three different kinds of laws.

Para 4

Students try to find the key word energy in the summary sentence.

Students will be asked to read by themselves to find answers to two multiple choices and then finish the comparing form of common energy and new energy.

Consolidate

A mind map of how Swiss go green will be shown to students to help them retell what Swiss do to protect the environment.

Students are asked to work together with group members and retell the things Swiss people do together and then show their group work in the front.

Para 5

Students try to summarize the key word hope in the summary sentence and find Martina’s hope in this para.

Group discussion

Discuss in groups about what students can do to protect the environment. Teacher offer some help when they are discussing and encourage students to do something they can to protect our environment.
