1. Before-reading:

(1)Show the students the following passage and remind them to pay attention to the underlined words and phrases. Ask some students to tell the Chinese meaning of them.

The traffic signal plays an important role in our daily life. But in practice, most drivers and passengers do not respect the rules. Some of them just pass by casually, and this kind of behavior may have a close encounter with death, which has a profound effect on each family. As a result, the death toll may greatly rise. In order to solve this problem, it is of great importance for everyone to respect the traffic signal. Only in this way can we build a safe travel experience.

Let some students to show their traffic boards to us describe their meaning, using the new words in the passages if necessary.

Learn and describe some traffic signals and introduce some new words and phrases: show them some traffic boards and describe the traffic meaning each represents.

2. While-reading:

(1) Skimming: find out the structure of the passage match the headings with the paragraphs. And tell them to pay attention to the first one or two sentences of each paragraph.

. Detailed-reading:

Ask a student to draw two pictures (a map of South America and a picture about Timoteo’s working conditions) on the blackboard and write down some key words in the pictures to make preparations for later use.
