Two main types of advertisements & their respective purposes

【教学难点】

Students might feel it difficult to express their own ideas on advertisements. Therefore, the teacher could provide them more hints.

【教学方法】

task-based approach, communicative approach, pair & group work

【教学过程】

Step 1: Leading in

Teacher asks ‘Do you know what the logo stands for?’ while presenting two pictures and slogans.

Then the teacher continues ‘What do we call them?’. While students answer the question, the teacher writes ‘Advertisement’ on the blackboard.

Step 2: Presentation

Teacher shows a question on PPT, following the previous step.

‘Where can we find advertisement?’

Invite one or two students to answer it. Write the answers on the blackboard and then make a conclusion after showing pictures with answers.

Teacher has students underline answers on p1 after putting forward the question.

‘What is an advertisement?’

Step 3: Activity 1-picture talking

Divide students into groups of two. The students in the same row are responsible for the same picture. Have them complete the information on each picture by filling the blank.

Sample:

I can see __________ in the picture. The ad tries to sell __________ . If we use the product, we will __________ . It tries to make / remind us __________.

After 5 minutes, invite four groups to share the information.

Then, have students conclude the two types that these ads can be divided into.
