Teaching procedures:
Step 1 lead-in
The teacher asks the students several questions and lead to the topic advertising.
I want to buy some chocolate.
1. What brand will you recommend?
2. How do you know it?
Step two Brainstorming
1. Enjoying some beautiful ads
The teacher shows the students several beautiful advertisements, among which are both commercial advertisements and public service advertisements. At the same time, help the students divide the ads into two types.
2. Answering questions
(1) Where can we find these ads?
(2) Have you ever bought a product or service after reading or watching an advertisement?
Step 3 Observation
Ask students to focus on the four advertisements on Page1. Encourage the students to form pairs and discuss the contents of each one and try to divide the four advertisements into two parts. Thus, encourage the students to pay attention to the functions of the commercial advertisements and public service advertisements.
Step 4 Discussion and speaking
Organize the students into four groups and ask each group to talk about one of the four pictures in front of the whole class. Each group should choose one representative to present their ideas to the whole class. The three questions can help the students to start the discussion.
Step 5 Further discussion
Do you believe both commercial ads and public service ads tell the complete truth? Why or why not?
Step 6 Homework
1. Reading exercise.
2. Preview the reading part.
3. Design a creative advertisement.
