4. Try to apply the skills learnt in this section to complete an ad in groups.

Teaching important and difficult points:

Learn to get the structure of an ad by finishing three tasks.

Learn to use different sentence types correctly.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Warming-up

Ask students to answer the question “If Dove wants to promote a new kind of chocolate, what should be done?”

Step 2. Reading

Read the email on page 13 to get the title of the email.

Ask:1) Do you think package is important for a product? Why or why not? Refer to your experience.

2) What kind of package do you think is good?

Step 3. Pair-work

Help students to learn to use conjunctions like because, as and since, and sentence structures like First, …Second, …Then…, (Next, …Finally, …) to introduce reasons.

Ask students to practice a dialogue in pairs, using the expressions introduced in this part and using the skills they have learnt.

Step 4. Skills building

Offer students a sample and let them observe the structure of it.

Eye-catching headline

1). Offer them 8 headlines and ask the following questions:

a. Can you tell what products or services the following headlines are advertising?

b. What do Headline 1 to Headline 4 have in common? What do Headline 5 to Headline 8 have in common?

(Ss are supposed to know we can highlight the trademark and use short and brief words and imperative sentences.)

2). Let them use the skills to come up with some headlines of the night light.

3. Lead-in paragraph

Let them read the ads on pages 16-17 and let them finish the two tasks:
