Main and difficult point:

How to help students learn to use persuasive languages to write an advertisement..

Teaching approaches:

Teaching approaches is the key step for class teaching. Group cooperation method as well as the approaches to discussion/dialogue/free talk and so on will be adopted in the teaching process of this lesson. This period, emphasis will be put on Ss’ ability of speaking, writing, creative thinking.

Interaction Patterns:

Ss’ ability to work both independently and together is very important to their success in the future. It is therefore important for Ss to have opportunities to develop their English skills and knowledge independently, in groups and as a class.

Procedures for teaching:

Step 1: Lead-in Free talk

T: I guess most of you like eating snacks. Can you tell me what kind of snacks you like best?

(Students tell us their favorite snacks one by one……)

T: My daughter likes snacks very much, and her favorite is Snickers. She loves it simply because of an advertisement (show the ad to students) .TFboys say it is beneficial to study and examination. It’s so eye-catching that it drew her attention immediately. This is the charm of advertisements.

T: Guessing games. (Show some ads to students and guess what they are about.)

Ss: … …

T: From the ads above, we know there are mainly two types of ads . That is , public service advertisements & commercial advertisements . What’s the purpose of PSA? What about commercial ads?

Ss:……

T: (Ask students to appreciate more ads and find out answers to the question.) What do you think attracts you most?

(Students will find words, pictures, quality, price, music, pop stars and so on are very attractive and impressive.)

T:

T: Languages play an extremely important role in them. Today we will learn how to use persuasive languages to write an ad.

Step 2: Persuasive words Reading and thinking.

T: Read the advertisement about sandwiches (on page 17) and find words that you think are attractive.

You will be amazed at the new recipes and new taste! Our sandwiches are yummy! They are also the biggest in town. We select and use only the best meat and freshest vegetables. Our sandwiches are a bargain at ¥5 each. When you buy one now, as a bonus you get another one free!

( Students can find these words easily.)

T: (Show snickers to students.) When seeing it, can you use some persuasive words to describe it?

S: mouth- watering, hungry, healthy, inviting, tasty…
