Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

Greet the students. Play a song Auld lang syne. The original form of the song was created by Robert Burns. Today, we are going to read a passage about his life story and his poetry.

Step 2 Task-based reading and writing

Finish the task-based reading and writing after reading the passage.

Step 3 Features of the poem

1). The poet compares the girl he loves to a red rose. What other similes does the poet present?

There are strange spelling words.

Luve, melodie, art, thou, gang, fare thee weel, bonnie lass.

2). The second and fourth lines of each section rhyme.

The teacher will show another two poems for the students to appreciate the usage of rhyme.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are.

Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky.

People meet and people pass by. Some laugh while some may cry.

Some give up while some always try. Some say hi while say bye.

Others may forget you but never I.

3). The poem was published in 1794, and was intended to be sung.
