improve the ability of how to get the main idea of the text;

know how to use the pattern to describe his/her hero in mind, the pattern: My hero is _________, who is _________,_______and _______. The reason why I like him/her is that__________;

present students’ idea confidently to other students;

know the spirit of a great man.

Teaching contents:

The important point: the qualities of a great man

The difficult point: how to get the main idea

Teaching aids: whiteboard, pen, PPT, computer

Type of the lesson: reading

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Warming up(4 mins)

Questions: Do you have any heroes in your mind? Who are they? Who do you admire greatly?

Play a guessing game with students, according to the sentences to guess the who are they.(Yao Ming, Bill Gates, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela )

Teacher gives some questions: who are the famous people and who are the great man?

Teacher makes a conclusion.

Step2. Lead in (3 mins)

Ask students two questions: Can you guess what we are going to learn? How much do you know Nelson Mandala?

Ask students take out book 1 and turn to page 34.

Before coming to the text, teacher shows some pictures about the terrible life of the black people.

Step3. Fast-reading (8 mins)

a) Introduce who is Elias.
