一、教学内容分析(Analysis of the Materials)

This lesson is the language points in Book 6, Unit 4. Language consists not of traditional grammar and vocabulary but often of multi-word prefabricated chunks. So in this lesson, the language points will be learned by extraction and application of lexical chunks. The first part is application of lexical chunks extracted from the reading. The second part is extraction of lexical chunks from reading and writing. The writing task is to write an email on how to deal with the problem of global warming. Students are supposed to make use of the lexical chunks to complete writing tasks in relatively authentic context. The main purpose of this lesson is to enable students to apply lexical chunks they have extracted to practice.

二、教学对象分析 (Analysis of the English Learners)

As Senior 2 students who have learned five modules, they know language points are important for them to get a better understanding of the text and help them to use language correctly and fluently. Also the students have learned that lexical chunks can help improve their way of learning language points. Besides, they have learned how to extract lexical chunks .So in the writing part, they will try to apply what they have learned about the structure and lexical chunks to writing practice as a natural output.

三、教学目标(Teaching Objectives)

At the end of the class, students will be able to

1. say out the Chinese meanings of the following lexical chunks:

light our cities / heat our buildings / consume energy / sources of energy / greenhouse gases / greenhouse effect / a rapid increase / explore these questions / be trapped in / a great range of /know what to expect

2. apply the following chunks into practice:

make a list of / come from / run out / be made up of / keep … from doing

heat up / compared to / come about / subscribe to / go up / result in

due to / quantities of / be opposed to / depend on / build up / keep on doing

tend to do sth

3. extract the lexical chunks from the passage

4. write an e-mail on how to deal with the problem of global warming , by using the lexical chunks learned in this lesson.

5. have a better understanding of the present situation of our Earth and know that they should take action now to save the Earth. Everyone’s contribution counts!

四.教学重难点 (Teaching Focus and Potential Difficulties)

Applying the lexical chunks into practice and writing an article adopting lexical approach are the teaching focus. Applying what they have gained in reading including the text structure and lexical chunks to writing and the accuracy in writing are the potential difficulties.

五、教学方法(Teaching Methods)

词块教学法

Lexical Approach

Language consists not of traditional grammar and vocabulary but often of multi-word prefabricated chunks. Teachers using the Lexical Approach will, instead of analyzing language whenever possible, be more inclined to direct the students’ attention to chunks which are as large as possible. Used as scaffolding, Lexical Approach will help students improve language learning efficiency and writing accuracy.
