Step 1 Lead-in

Ask the students to analyze the following long sentense to find that non-finite verb plays an important role in understanding the long sentenses, so it is a must for them to master non-finite verb.

长难句分析

The energy used to separate oxygen from air before burning is almost as great as that needed to filter out nitrogen afterwards, leading to a similar loss of efficiency.

解析:本句结构简单,主干是:The energy is almost as great as that needed to filter out nitrogen afterwards, 是主系表结构,同时还有平级比较as...as结构,其中主语energy由过去分词结构needed to...做后置定语体现被动;句末的非谓语动词结构leading to a similar loss of efficiency作全句的结果状语

参考译文:燃烧前将氧气从空气中分离所需的能源几乎不亚于上述将氧气过滤所需的耗费。这就使得两者在效率损失上不相上下

Step2 Presentation

Teacher writes the different tenses and voices of non-finite verb to do , -ing and v-ed and ask the students to find out non-finite verbs in the following sentences

2. The news meeting, to be held in that hall, has already been crowded with reporters.

3. Having reached the very peak of the Everest, the climbers cheered against the fierce north wind.

4. He keeps buying expensive maps. He must have more than 200 by now.
