Step1: Hello, everyone. I am Danny. When I was of your age, I fell in love with the English monitor of our class. So I wrote a love letter to her (as is seen in your paper). But her reply was as follows: I am afraid you have to write another letter. Your English is so poor.

So could you help me improve my writing?

A Love letter

I considered it for a long time. And I decided to write you this letter. In this letter, I will tell you how much I love you. //I don't have the courage to tell you face to face. So I have to use this way.//

When I hear that you have won the first prize in the English contest, I admire you very much.//Although I don't have a good command of English, I will make ever effort to learn it well because you set a good example to me.//When I see you enter the classroom, I can't help watching you.//And many times, you leave the classroom and talk and laugh, and leave me in sweet daydreams.//I feel tired of the daily routine. I really want to make my life colorful.//I consider myself to be handsome. So I feel confident that you will accept my love.//

If you accept me, you will have an unforgettable romance with me.// If you don't accept me, you will receive my love letters one after another.// Before you refuse me, please think twice about it.

Step2: Your Tips to Danny:

In order to improve your writing, you have to learn how to use the non-finite verbs in the composition, especially the v-ing form as adverbial. Now let’s learn it together, ok?

设计意图:导入部分利用学生初中课本中老朋友Danny的一封情书引入,使学生了解Danny面临的问题及老师给Danny的建议。从而引出本课主题并增加学生的学习兴趣和欲望。

总结:v-ing作条件状语,you执行两个动作,look和find, 将一个动作处理成v-ing形式作状语。

2.Although he achieved a great deal in his career, Jobs still had a beginner's mind. →Achieving

总结:v-ing作让步状语,he执行两个动作,achieved和had, 将一个动作处理成v-ing作状语。

3.The Deetoes feel lonely because they never look up from their phone. →Never looking up from their phone, the Deetoes feel lonely.

总结:v-ing作原因状语,I 执行两个动作,never look up和feel, 将一个动作处理成v-ing作状语。

4.Xi’s U.S. visit was extremely smooth, resulting (result) in the two countries embarking on(开始) a path of cooperation instead of one of confrontation(对抗).=so that it resulted

总结:v-ing作结果状语,Xi's visit执行was和resulted in, 将result处理成v-ing作状语。

注:v-ing 表结果,常置于句中,用逗号隔开,表顺其自然的结果。

to do 表结果,常与only 连用,表出乎意料的不好的结果。
