Teaching procedures:

Step1: Warming up

Ask students to answer the question: what do you know about Canada?

Then let students have a quiz about Canada to know more about Canada.

Step2: Reading

Skimming: Ask students to read the passage quickly, then answer the two questions below and ask some students to give their answers.

What is the passage mainly about?

The passage is about ________of two girls, and it tells us some information about Canada.

What does “The True North” refer to in the text?

Scanning : Divide the students into four groups and ask each group to finish their reading tasks. Several minutes later, let each group show their answers to the whole class.

Step3. Post -reading

Let students think about two questions, discuss with their partners and then ask some of them to share their ideas with the whole class.

What three words would you use to describe Canada? And why?

Discussion: What do you think about journey?

Step4. Homework

Get students to find the useful words and expressions in this passage and preview them and talk about what they have learned about Canada in class.
