Step 1 Lead in

The students ask the new teacher some questions with the given answers.

Step2 Reading

Predict the passage by looking at the picture in the passage and asking questions they want to know about the passage.

Read the title and the passage, then answer: Is it from a book or a newspaper? Why?

Match the main idea of each paragraph.

Read para.1 and finish the chart: (what/when/where/who); Then get a conclusion: In a newspaper passage, the most important facts are from para.1 ; the first sentence in para.1 is very important.

Read para.2 and number the pictures.

Read para.2 and retell how they saved the old man in groups with the help of the pictures and the chart.

Read para. 3 and answer the question: What do the passengers think of the bus driver and what do you think of him?

Step 3 Play a game

Play a game to help students solve the problems in the reading.

Step 4 Discussion

Let students discuss: People should often help others or not? Why or why not?

Step 5 Homework

Tell the news to the people around you.

Read English newspapers like China Daily.
