Greet with Students. Students were divided into two groups to encourage them speak English and answer my question.

Let’s chant. What did I do? What did you do?

Step II. Presentation.

1. I introduce a friend, David to students and create a situation that David was very happy last Monday. What did he do? Students watch a video and find the answer.

2. According to the text, I show another chart to the students, and ask students:

When did he get up and have breakfast? How did he go to school?

In this way, students can perceive how to use the simple past tense and the changes of the verbs in the tense. When I ask one question, I show the phrase to the students on the blackboard, e.g. get up. When students answer, ‘He got up at 6:30.’ I show them the simple past tense of the word ’got up’. We learn had breakfast and went to school in the same way.

Then, I ask students, What about you? Students ask and answer in pairs. So they can practice the sentence patterns.

3. I show a picture to the students. David and his friend Li Ming were at the school gate. David looked so tired. What did he do? Students guess the answer. Then show the dialogue between David and Li Ming to get the answer. Oh, he watched a football game last night.

4.When did David watch the game? Students read silently and find the answer. ‘I watched it from 10:00 to 11:00 pm. I’ll tell the students that means, ‘I watched it until 11:00 pm.’ to get the meaning of the word ‘until’. Then write the sentence pattern on the blackboard.

5. Students listen and imitate the sentence pattern.

6. How was the game? Students open the book and underline the answer.

7. Let’s review. Students read the dialogue about David together.

8. I ask students another question. What about you?

Students work with their partner, make a new dialogue by using the key knowledge.

9. Then we move to David’s story again. His friend, Li Ming, asked David, ‘Who won the game?’ Learn the new phrase. And show students the phrase, ‘win the game’, ask students,’ Can you read this phrase?’ In this way, students can handle the different types of the verbs better. Then I show a flag to the students to know which country it is. At last, students listen to the radio and repeat.

10. I ask the last question to the students. ‘Why is Li Ming so excited?’ Students find the answer by themselves, and then listen to the radio to check the answer.

Step 3 Practice.

Deal with the dialogue in Listen and say.

Listen and imitate the pronunciation.

Choose one friend in your group and role play the dialogue.

Read in groups.

Some of the words or phrases were hidden. Students read together to check if they can handle the dialogue.

After school, what else did Lucas do? Then I show another video to the students. So they can answer, ‘He did his homework and went shopping.’. I’ll also show them the prototype of the verbs to distinguish how to use them in different senses.

Step 4 Consolidation.

I’ll show the students a diary about what I did last Sunday. It’s about where I went, with whom, when and what I did.

I show a frame to the students. Students talk with each other and make their own diary.

Students write a diary themselves.

Step 5 Summary and Homework.

Make a summary about what we learned and which team is the champion to encourage them.
