Teaching procedures:

Procedure Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity Purpose 1.Pre-task preparation

1. Invite Ss to enjoy three pieces of music, and to guess the name of the music and the composer. Enjoy the pieces of music .Try to guess the name of the music and the composer. To create a music environment. 2. Offer some basic information about Beethoven. Try to get more information about Beethoven with the help of the word cues.

To make Ss know more about Beethoven and get curious about him.

II. While-task activities

1. Ask Ss to listen to the whole text and finish T/F task and put the sentences into the correct order. Listen and get to know the main idea of the text and try to do some T/F exercises and put the sentences into the correct order. To help Ss practice listening and get the general idea of the text. 2. Ask Ss to listen to the 1st part and work in four to role-play. Group-work: Role-play the 1st part according to the word cues. To arouse Ss’ interest and apply cooperative learning method. 3. Ask Ss to listen to the first half of the 2nd part and work in pairs to read and answer the questions on the PPT. Pair-work: Try to get exact answers to the questions on the PPT after listening attentively. To help Ss have a further understanding of the first half of the 2nd part . 4. Ask Ss to listen to the latter half of the second part and fill in the blanks on the PPT and read them. Fill in the blanks and read the sentences one by one. To help Ss get familiar with the use and spelling of the important words.

5. Invite Ss to read the text together. Read the text together. To help Ss have a further understanding of the text. III. Post-task activities

1. Require Ss to work in pairs to retell the story. How did Beethoven create The Moonlight Sonata? Choose one student to retell the whole story.

Individual-work. Try to retell the whole story. To encourage the students to recite the text. 2. Give part of the Beethoven’s diary to Ss to complete.

Introduce Beethoven’s idea of creation. To consolidate the understanding of the text and help the students know the idea of creation. 3. Show some pictures and guide Ss to discuss: What can we learn from these people and what should we do if we meet difficulties? (If time is permitted, give a composition to Ss to read) Group-Work. Discuss: What can we learn from these people and what should we do in our daily life if we meet difficulties?

To arouse Ss’ love for life and make them believe nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
