Task one Work in groups to discuss the following questions.

1) What do you see as you read the poem?

2) How would you describe the narrator of this poem? What do you know about this poem?

3) Describe the two roads in the poem. How are they different?

4) How might you connect the poem to your life?

Task two

In the last stanza of the poem, the poet says “I shall be telling this with a sigh/Somewhere ages and ages hence.” Imagine that you are 60 years old. Describe the road you took in life. Are you happy with this road? Why or why not? What do you wish you had done differently?

Task three

Do you ever choose the easiest way to do something, even if it is not the best way? This is sometimes called “taking the easy way out.”

Step four discussion

Group discussion: Think of a time when you had to choose between taking the easy path and the difficult path. Which path did you choose? Why? What were the consequences of your decision?

Step five Homework: How do you understand “Life is a series of choices and we cannot always foresee the consequences.” Write a short passage within 100 words.
