Step II Pre-reading (5 minutes)

Here I’ll show students one luxury house and one small apartment and ask students to consider: “which one will you choose to live in and why? “How about Charles Gray’s choice?” Here, students will have two minutes to collect their ideas and make a prediction about Charles Gray’s choice.

Next, I’ll show some pictures which expose the millionaire’s life to make Charles Gray stand out because of his deeds. At last I’ll introduce students to know Charles Gray

These introductions and predictions can motivate students to learn some details about Charles Gray, as well as to understand Charles Gray’s choice. Meanwhile students’ motivation and curiosity may grow gradually.

StepIII While-reading (18 minutes)

In this period there are four tasks to help students get information, and improve their reading strategies.

These four tasks can help students master the key words and phrases, gain the main ideas of each paragraph, and completely the details of the context so that I can help them improve their reading ability and achieve the knowledge objects partly. Moreover, I can prepare them well for the next task.

Step IV Post-reading(10 minutes) I will ask students imagine they are Charles and they are having an interview with a reporter, let them design a TV Interview of the ex-millionaire .

Using useful details of the context to design a TV Interview makes students better master the information of the context and improves students speaking ability. Also, during the interview, students may suppose themselves as Charles Gray and they can form the similar feelings about money. In fact this can help build up students’ correct attitudes to money. At the same time students need to cooperate with students so their awareness of cooperation will be improved.

Step V Summary (6 minutes)

To use the information from the text to finish some exercises helps students develop their problem solving ability along with solving problems flexibly.

Write a short passage about money. You may choose one of the following topics

Negative views: Money talks.

Positive views: Money is not everything.

Through this reading lesson, students learned that different people may hold different opinions about money and they got a deep impression of Charles Gray. Thus such homework can urge students to form their own correct attitudes towards money and develop their writing ability.
