Step 1 Warming up

T presents Ss a game named “crossword puzzle”. Ss tries to circle the words

on the pad as many as possible. After that, they hand in their results through pads.

Step 2 Pre-reading

T uses the words Ss has found in the game to make an old saying, “Do as the Romans do”. At the same time, T introduces this old saying as the title of the passage for this lesson.

Step 3 Fast Reading 1

Ss are asked to look through the passage and find out the rule of “do as the Romans do”. Then, Ss divide the passage into three parts (beginning, body and ending).

【Writing Strategy 1】 T reminds Ss that if they want to write a passage better, they had better to lay out properly.

Step 4 Fast Reading 2

Ss are asked to read the passage and find out the main idea of it.

【Reading strategy 1】Ss conclude by themselves that if they want to get the main idea of a passage, they can probably read the first paragraph.

Step 5 Brainstorming

T let Ss have a discussion about “Eating in the West”. Ss are encouraged to type in the key words and phrases on their pads and send their answers to the T through pads.

Step 6 Careful Reading 1

Ss are asked to read the passage and match the headings with the paragraphs. Meanwhile, T interacts with Ss when they check the answers.

Step 7 Careful Reading 2

Ss are asked to read from paragraph 2 to paragraph 7. When Ss are reading, several assessments are designed as below:
