Teach blending. Pg 8. Important: I don’t want you to guess the word; I want you to work it out by blending the letter sounds together. First we will say each of the letters sounds three times. Then I want you to say it in your head quickly. You have to wait until I click my finger and then you can blend the word.

Dot, got,on, stop, hop, cot, mop, cost.

(Pg 8 cont) Hand out blending sheets: When others are blending, I want you to blend in your head and write the word on the sheet. You don’t have to write down your own word. Everyone has to be quiet so you can hear. I don’t expect you to get them all right straightaway, after a few weeks you will. I’m going to call out a whole word and you have to spell the word with the letter sounds and the action. It gets easier with more practice. Hold up a finger for each letter sound they call out.

Further activities. Who is ready to play little game? (pg 9) Two teams just like the last time. If you get the word right you move forward one space, wrong and you move back one space. Get kids to blend the words they meet as they move along.

Revision of letter sounds. I will show you the flash card and you have to say (not shout) the letter sound.

Conclusion. Just before you are finished you can listen to the Jolly Song (page 3) about the /ooo/ letter sound. Sit down and I will hand out your sheets. Well done, you are all finished today. Clap Clap
