Review the story Gulliver’s Travels in Lilliput in Reading part.
Purpose: To arouse students’ interest and lead in the topic of this lesson. To create a kind of lively atmosphere. More important is to activate(触发) the students’ prior knowledge.
Step 2：Presentation (about 12mins)
1. Rule 1
Try to rewrite the sentences about Gulliver with question words + to-infinitives.
He didn’t know where to find his friends.
He wondered who to ask for help.
He did not know what to say to the tiny people.
He hoped to find out how to get away.
Work out the rule:
S: We can use a question word + to-infinitive after a verb.
T: But we can’t say: He couldn’t explain why to see many tiny men on his body.
S: All question words can be used in this way, except “why”.
