Step I Warming-up

The teacher shows a screen-shot of her phone. And lead the students to find out a new APP which is not very common. The APP’s icon is a picture of Yuan Longping so that the teacher comes to the point---Great scientists. Then open the new APP, and explore it. When the teacher touches the icon, a video is shown. The video is from the CCTV Moving China 2004, introducing the great scientist---Yuan Longping and why he won the award.

Step II Lead-in

T: Do you know who he is? Obviously, he is one of the Top Ten people Moving China in 2004.Why he is so touching and inspirational? What kind of discoveries he made? He is regarded as “the father of hybrid rice”.In 1994, there is a person named Lester Brown from the USA. He has ever doubted,”Who will feed China in the 21th Century?”Apparently, his concern is not necessary. Look at us! We are healthy, and we are abundant in food. As Yuan said, “China will feed (养活)itself. What’s more, we will also help the whole world get rid of (摆脱)hunger.”He said so and meanwhile he did so. He is concerned about the hunger problem very much. If you want to know more detailed information, Let’s read the passage”The Student Who Asked Questions” on Page32.

T: Before you begin reading, I will give you two tasks. First, find the topic sentence of each paragraph and second, get the main idea of each paragraph.
