a. Students can master the meaning and pronunciation of the new words, such as, sighting,mysterious,claim,surface,horn,dive,calm,sceptical,unlikely,volcanic,cover ,claim,repeat,appear,temperature and so on.
b. Students can master the key phrases in the given situations.
2). Ability
a. Students can improve the ability of getting the general and specific information fromreading.
b. Students can understand and use the sentence pattern to express their meaning.
3). Values and Emotions
a. Students can take great interest in learning English and take an active part in the activities in class.
b. Students can learn to observe and discover the truth in the natural world.
Part Two Analysis of the Students
1. Most of the senior 1 students in our school haven’t got enough basic knowledge, so they couldn’t express themselves in English and nearly lose interest in learning English. However, they are eager to cooperate with group members and be praised or evaluated properly.
2. In the following class, some key words were introduced in the introduction. Of course, the topic about unexplained mysteries of the natural world is not an unfamiliar topic. Nearly everyone is interested in the topic about the monster of lake Tianchi.
3. According to the above analysis of teaching materials and the students, I identify the key points and difficult points of teaching as follows:
1). Key points:
a. Students can understand the sentence pattern in the reading and express the meaning in a real situation.
b. Students can master some reading skills like predicting and grasping the signal words.
2). Difficult points:
Students can introduce an interesting monster with target language that they have learned.
