《Reading(1):Lost civilizations》教案优质课下载

There are not sufficient materials about ancient civilizations, which is why I provide some reading materials about some of them for the students to refer to. The materials I offer are used to improve students’ ability to scan for historic information, but also to give students enough input to lead to output, that is,to have a good understanding of the history of an ancient civilization and states what they would do as a human from the future if there were back there.

Analysis of the students

According to the survey I made beforehand, Grade one students show great interest in ancient civilizations, like, pyramids, the forbidden palace, etc. But the sad truth is that not every student has read enough about what they are interested in. Therefore, to make them equipped with sufficient information about them, I have provided with them reading materials to enlarge their background knowledge.

Grade one students are curious to know the world more. They are full of energy and imagination. Despite their heavy studies, they are still lucky enough to spare some time for their hobbies, for example, exploring the past, the history of our human beings. So through this class, what I want to achieve the most is to raise their interest in the glorious past of the world and encourage them to read more after class by making the best of the easily accessed Internet.

Teaching and learning aims and demands

◆Before class

Students are required to preview the reading text to have a rough understanding of the material and look through reading materials I provide them with to enlarge their background knowledge about some ancient civilizations.

◆In class

= 1 ﹨ GB3 ① Students are led by the teacher to know more about the past and inspired to think about what they would do if they were back to the past.

= 2 ﹨ GB3 ② Students are required to know about the history of both Pompeii and Loulan by scanning the reading material, focusing on two kinds of details: one is the historic information; the other is what is left for today.

= 3 ﹨ GB3 ③ Students are asked to practice in class to scan for history of other two civilizations, that is , the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.

= 4 ﹨ GB3 ④ Students are motivated to work out reasons for preservation of ancient civilizations.

◆After class

= 1 ﹨ GB3 ① Students are satisfied to have learnt how to scan a text to work out the history of a place fast.

= 2 ﹨ GB3 ② Students are even more curious about the ancient civilizations of the world.

= 3 ﹨ GB3 ③ Students are willing to read more to know about the splendid civilizations of human beings.

Teaching procedure

= 1 ﹨ ROMAN I Lead in

Pictures and a video are used to lead students to be back to the past, which is the theme of the class. This part is also intended to have students think about what they would do if they were back to the past, thus seeding the discussion to follow.

= 2 ﹨ ROMAN II Pre- reading

A reading tip is given to remind students of the time order when scanning a text for historic information.

= 3 ﹨ ROMAN III Fast reading

Students are required to scan the reading text to find two kinds of details: one is the historic information; the other is what is left for today.

Students are asked to practice in class to scan for history of other two civilizations, that is, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.
