Step1. Lead-in:

T plays a video clip which is about Pompeii. After watching the video,T asks Ss: Which city is talked about here? What happened to it?

Do you know any other city that is similar to it?

2. T shows some pictures about Loulan.

Step2. Fast-reading: Task1. Predicting & Summarizing

Predicting: About the two cities, what will the author tell us in her diary? Besides that, will she mention anything else? What might she mention?

Then T encourages some Ss to write on the blackboard their opinions.
