Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2. Warming up

T: Today we are going to learn Lesson 3 in Unit 8. So what 's the title of this lesson?

S: Marco Polo.

T: Right. Have you heard about Marco Polo?

S: Yes.

T:From your history book, we know that Marco Polo is a traveller. Before we start, Let’s see some pictures first. (show pictures of Zheng He, Clumbus and Marco Polo) What do you know about these explores?

S:

T: Zheng He was a famous explorer. He led his fleet to many countries in Ming Dynasty. Columbus crossed the Atlantic and found America. His voyages changed the world greatly! What about Marco Polo? Before we come to the text, Let me first introduce a kind of food to you. My dear, do you like noodles? So what kind of noodles is it?

S:

T: Yes. It’s a kind of Italian noodles, called Spaghetti. So do you know the story about Spaghetti?

S:No.

T: In Yuan Dynasty, a traveller followed the silk road and came to China. When he arrived in Shanxi, he was surprised at the food, that is noodles people ate there. So when he returned to Italy, he brought the skill of noodle-making to his own country. Later, people in Italy changed and developed it. So it become the noodles we know today. That’s the story about Spaghetti. So who is the traveller, can you guess?

S: Marco Polo.

T: Right.You are so clever, so smart! So which of the following do you think is true about Marco Polo?
