Teaching Procedures:

Step1: Lead-in

1: Greet the class as usual.

2: Present a video which is a song named I don’t want to be a chick for students to appreciate. After that tell them the chick doesn’t want to be a chick because of Bird Flu, and Bird Flu is a terrible epidemic.

3: Show them the definition of epidemic and more kinds of diseases, and then ask them to point out the one that can be called epidemics

Step 2: Pre-reading:

Explain some new words to get rid of the obstacles of reading, namely epidemic, symptom, virus, tablet and prescription. And then tell them the tasks of today’s class

Step 3: Fast reading:

1: Students read the reading strategies and give them one example to comprehend.

2: Have students read the passage and match the five passages from A-E with the gaps 3.5.8.10 and 12, and then encourage them to talk with partners about why they have that choice. Remind them to use the Reading Strategies to help them. Ask some of the students to give their answers and the reasons.

Step 4: Careful reading:

1: Students read the passage to find some detailed information on the epidemics and fill in the form. Ask some students to complete the form.
