The main task of this lesson is to lead students to think and read actively and write persuasively. At the end of the class, the students will be able to:

get the hang of the new words listed in unit2 Using Language, such as trial、eyewitness、fact, evidence、prove、entrance、explode and so on.

understand what a fact is and what an opinion is by scanning the text and locating the information in the text..

identify the facts and opinions in the passage by reading and thinking actively.

learn how to use facts or opinions to make the writing more persuasive

arouse students’ interest and confidence in using what they have learned in their own writing.

= 2 ﹨ ROMAN ﹨ MERGEFORMAT II . Teaching Procedures:

Step1: Warming up

1. Enjoy a show video about a trial and then deal with the relevant words about trial.

(trial, court, judge, lawyer, jury, accuser, accused person, fact, evidence, prove, eyewitness, innocent, guilty,)

2. Read the words above together.

3. Read the sentences together with the words above.

4. Think about the differences among “evidence” “fact” and “opinion”.

【设计意图】由视频引出话题,在激发学生好奇心和学习兴趣的同时引出相应的词汇进行学习,同时导出话题“事实观点”,为接下去的语篇阅读教学步骤做好感情上的铺垫。

Step2: Reading

1. Fast reading

Read the title and try to get the main idea with one sentence.

【设计意图】通过读标题预测文本内容也是一种不错的学习策略。

2. Careful reading (Passage1)

1). Read the Passage 1 carefully and then find the answers to the three questions.

(1)What is a fact?(2)What is an opinion? (3)What is evidence?

2). Invite students to answer the questions and then read the passage aloud.

3). Based on students’ understanding about opinion and fact, ask them to judge whether it is a fact or an opinion”

(2)、Jane said that her son is the honest boy in the world.
