Ss may have problems when dealing with the play – a new type of writing.

Ss may find it difficult to taste the writing style of Mark Twain.

Possible solutions

T can give Ss some helps before they read the play. These helps can include telling Ss the basic elements of a play.

T can let Ss taste the writing style of Mark Twain by dealing with two pairs of contrasts in the play when analyzing its plot.

Teaching procedures

Stage 1 Warming & Lead-in (4 mins)

Activity 1 Guessing (1 mins)

To begin the class, T can arouse Ss’ interest by showing a riddle: “__?__ is must, but not everything”.

Aims: To introduce the topic of the unit to Ss and to make the whole class more active.

T: Hello, everyone, let’s first do one mental exercise. Please look at the riddle: “__?__ is must, but not everything”. What’s it?

Ss: Money!

T: Great! Money!

Activity 2 Talking & Sharing (3 mins)

After Ss tell the answer of the riddle, T lets Ss talk about some famous currencies they know and introduce four important currencies to them and the last one is Pound.

Aims: To cultivate the speaking ability of Ss and introduce the topic of the unit to them.

T: So you know, there are many famous currencies (money or cash in use) around the world. Here I have some pictures, so let’s see what kind of currencies they are.
