2. To help the students have a deeper understanding of the play;

3. To help the students be able to act out the play with feelings and emotions.

3. 学情分析

The Reading Part is a play based on a story by an American writer—Mark Twain, consisting of two scenes(Act I, Scene 3&Act I Scene 4). Having learned the new words of the unit, listened to the audio of the text and seen the movie The Million Pound Bank Note before class, the students have got the general idea of the story, and they may even remember some fun parts in the movie, which will make it easier for them to better understand the text and is of benefit for them to act out the play.

4. 重点难点

Teaching important points:

1. Help the students be able to analyze the attitudes of the main characters;

2. Get the students to focus on the differences between the movie and the Reading;

3. Encourage the students to practice reading the lines and act out the play in groups.

Teaching difficult points:

1. How to help the students analyze the attitudes of the main characters;

2. Help the students act out the play with feelings and emotions.

5. 教学过程

5.1 第一学时

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Leading in

Lead in by showing some RMB in cash in an envelope and ask the students to count the cash, and then tell them the exchange rate of RMB and pound at present and in 1903 to arouse the students’ interest. Main purpose: let the students have a better understanding of what huge money a million pound is.

Step 2 Fast reading

Read the text quickly and complete the form with detailed information about basic elements of a story such as when, where, who and what. Main purpose: let the students master the relevant reading skills of a story and get the main idea.

Step 3 Careful Reading

1. Question & Answer

Get some students to answer several questions to have a better understanding of the story, especially the differences between the text and the movie.

Scene 3

Questions: (1). Where did Henry come from?

(2). Did he know much about London?
