Analysis of the teaching materials

This unit introduces the usage of appositive clause clearly in the passage as well as in the grammar plate. While studying and analyzing the special sentences, we can also combine the subject, object, and predicative clauses together to master them and tell them from each other.

This class is intended to improve students’ abilities of speaking, reading, writing as well as the skills of forming an English composition;

While using subject, object, predictive, and appositive clauses, students must pay attention to the usage of conjunction “that” and “whether”, and the differences between noun clauses and attributive clause.

While writing the composition, students try to apply noun clauses into writing and beautifying their sentences.

Teaching and learning key points:

Trying to express yourself by using subject, object, predictive and appositive clauses and using the conjunctions properly;

Forming an English composition well and expressing your own opinions fluently;

Teaching and learning difficulties:

How to use the conjunctions “ that “ “ whether” “what” correctly and express yourself using noun clauses;

Finishing an English composition in the limited time in the class and form it well.

Teaching and learning process:

Activity 1: Lead in ( Revision)

Review the previous texts which feature the similar structures and language functions by reading together .

Reciting the especially good sentences and getting the hang of their characteristics and functions as well.

Activity 2: Learning about noun clauses in writing (pre-writing)

Students will be shown a writing topic and divided into groups to discuss the detailed information so as to gain the formation of the English composition;

The teacher combines the main idea of the writing topic and guides students to begin writing the composition together;

Based on the simple sentences and plain writing, the teacher guides students to rewrite the English composition and beautify its sentences by using subject, object, predictive, and appositive clauses.

After rewriting the composition, students make a summary of English Writing and especially the use of four kinds of noun clauses.

Activity 3: induction of useful language points. (pre-writing)

The teacher points out the use of conjunctions while using four kinds of noun clauses, especially the use of “that” “what” “whether” and the word order.

Picking out some important words and expressions from the composition which will be used in the next writing.

Activity 4 : writing a composition. (while-writing)

Showing students another similar writing topic and giving them some time to organize their thinking and methods of writing the composition;
