Step2:The topic of the class: high-level simple sentences

Reading

(25 minutes)

I. Reading of the text

Q&A: Students read paragraph one and find out the purposes of writing poems and figure them out in the poem provided.

Mind map

Skimming: Ask students to go over the whole text quickly and find out how many kinds of poems are introduced in the text.

Scanning: Let students complete the mind map by putting some key words of the characteristics of each kind of poems.

1. Nursery rhymes (poem A) 2. List poems (poem B and poem C) 3. cinquain (poem D and poem E) 4. Haiku (poem F and poem G) 5. Tang poems (poem H) (Tang poem is left for students to learn by themselves after class)

Justification: use the mind map to help students have a general idea of the structure and important information of the text.

II. Reading of the poems

●Nursery rhymes

Students read and sing poem A and answer a relevant question.

Justification: the most direct way to understand the features and beauty of nursery rhymes is to sing and feel its rhythm.
