本课环节简述:首先,以之前学习课文中的植物学家Joseph Banks保护“植物多样性”为引入点,引入主人公Boyan Slat,以其致力于清理海洋垃圾,保护“海洋生物多样性”的经历为线索,为学生学习创设情境,根据Boyan的事迹,学生学习并使用重点词汇,同时感受榜样的力量。特别是最后一个活动环节,让学生根据已学单词和词组实际操练,以联合国环境署的口吻为Boyan编写“地球卫士奖”颁奖词,进一步巩固所学知识。然后,回归到学生日常生活,提出问题让学生思考:我们平时可以做些什么?最后,教师总结,提出近来全国试行的“垃圾分类”的活动,简述其意义,并布置作业:写短文推行“垃圾分类”的活动。

本课的明线是Boyan的经历,暗线(感情线)称为“海洋之歌”,经历了以下几个步骤:昔日交响曲,戛然而止,拯救海洋,海洋之歌。

本课践行“英语学习活动观”,创设情境,既整合发展了学生的语言知识与语言技能,提高了学生的学习能力,增加了学生的词汇量,也不断增强了学生的环保意识:学生透过核心人物Boyan的所见所谓,随着他的所思逐步深入,不仅学习了本课核心词汇,而且了解和感受主人公为了保护海洋生物多样性、保护海洋和地球的环境而一直努力奋斗的精神,从而激发学生爱护海洋,保护动物,保护地球家园的主人翁情怀。

Analysis of the teaching materials:

The topic of the unit is about exploring plants, and this lesson is the outputting process of the unit. The lesson is to get the students to know some key words and promote students’ environmental awareness.

Analysis of the students:

Students are in Grade 3 in our school, whose English is relatively good enough for the teacher to conduct challenging tasks, and they have already acquired a certain amount of words and expressions. However, there exist differences among the students. The teacher should take care of the whole class and motivate everyone to get involved in the class.

Teaching objectives

By the end of the class, students are able

To learn some key words and their usages: admit, regret, endeavour, promise, avoid, manage, determine, expect, suggest.

To properly use the words in appropriate situations.

To know the present situation of the sea and wildlife and be motivated to take on the responsibility of protecting our environment and nature.
