Difficult point: How to guide Ss to use reading strategies, such as predicting and skimming.

Teaching methods:

In this lesson, task-based language teaching approach and communicative approach will be used. In this way, Ss are able to express their ideas freely and they can improve their comprehensive language skills.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: warming up and leading in

Firstly, I will play a video about Peppa Pig. Ss need to pay attention to the details. Then I will ask them some questions.

Q1: Is it special today? Why does Peppa get up so early?

Q2: Does Peppa have a birthday party? How about birthday cake?

Q3: When is your birthday? What do you do or eat on your birthday?

For the three questions, Ss will show their answers.

设计意图:通过观看《小猪佩奇》的生日视频,在此视频中提取一些信息提问,既能够激发学生的学习兴趣,活跃课堂气氛,又能导入本课内容。

Step 2 Pre-reading

Before reading the passage, Ss will be guided to predict the main idea of the passage. First I will show them a picture in 2b. Then I will show them the title“Birthday Food Around the World” .To help Ss predict the main idea easily, I will ask some questions:

Q1: What can you see in the picture?

Q2. Please read the title together. Then predict the main idea.

设计意图:通过读前的预测活动,学生阅读本篇文章的好奇心得到激发。同时,适当的预测也为后面的阅读活动奠定基础。

Step 3 While-reading

In this step, there are 3 tasks.

Task 1: skimming

(1)Ss will listen to the passage and try to find the main idea of the passage. In this way, the prediction question can be answered.

(2)Ss will be given 3 mins to read the passage and fill in the chart in 2b. In this way, Ss can get some basic information from the passage.

设计意图:通过播放文章音频,让学生一边感受读音一边找出文章大意,这样读前预测活动的问题得到解决。再次阅读完成表格则锻炼了学生寻找信息的能力。

Task 2: scanning

Ss will be guided to listen Para.2 and answer different kinds of questions.

1. Para2 is about...

2. The number of candles is_________

3. What do people in the UK sometimes put in a birthday cake?

4. Guess the meaning of “in one go”.

设计意图:设计各种题型目的是引导学生精读文章内容,找到关键信息,并且再次熟悉文章。
