一、自主学习
Step 1 Skimming
(1)How many parts can the passage be divided ? What does each part mainly focus on ?
part1 ( paragraph1)：The introduction to the background and five authoresses.
part2 ( paragraph2-6) : The five authoresses and their achievements in literature.
part 3 ( paragraph 7): Compared with Charles Dickens, these women writers’ impact was greater.
(2) What’s the aim of this passage ?
The aim of this passage is twofold:
Aim 1: to help students understand the problems that women writers had during their careers
Aim 2: and to explain the development of the novel in the nineteenth century.
Step 2 Scanning
Scan the passage and underline the names of the English Authoresses in the 19th century mentioned in the passage , their representative works and the issue each writer was most concerned with.
Step 3 comprehending
Dealing with part1 ( paragraph1)
Find out some key words that describe what difficult background the authoresses faced and how they managed it.
( consensus, oppose, restriction, no equality , lack of opportunity, discrimination , a generally held view, ban ; twist, strange, contradiction, courageous, gifted, get round.)
Ask the students to retell this paragraph according to the key words.
2. Dealing with part2 ( paragraph2-6)
Pay attention to the five great women writers-------- their names, works ,issue addressed in her novel and the reasons for success.
