PROCESS:

Step1.Brainstorm

Let students say the verbs they know as many as the can .

Step 2.Presentation

Show a word “now”to students,and let students describe the pictures and tell what people are doing now.

Chang the time “at 8 o’clock yesterday,then prompt students to describe the first picture,then let students try to describe the picture with the past continuous tense.

Show a picture with the sound and ask:What happened?Present the new word--rainstorm,and show some different pictures and ask students:What were people doing when the rainstorm came?Help students answer the question according to the pictures.

4.show the pictures and let students describe the pictures and read the sentences in 1a,circle the key words in each sentences.Match the pictures with the sentences.Check the answers.

Step 3.Pair work

Let students work in pairs to talk about what they were doing when the rainstorm came.At last,invite some pairs to present their dialogues.

Step 4.Listening

Call students’ attention to the short responses in 1b,let students listen and circle the right ones.Then check the answers.

First ,let students look at the pictures and describe each picture,predict the answers .Play the tape,let students listen and number the pictures 1-5,then check the answers.

Let students listen to the tape again and fill in the blanks to complete the sentences.Before listening ,go through the sentences in 2b.Play the tape and check the sentences.

Step 5.Consolidation

Let students think up what they were doing at 7 or 8 last Saturday.Make a survey and let students work in groups of four .Then invite some students to give a report in front of the class.

Step 6.Summary

Summarize what they have learnt in this class.

Step 7.Homework

Make a survey about what your family were doing at 7 yesterday and write down a report.
