Step 1. Warm-up

Enjoy a video “my dream”

Have the students learn the new words and verb phrases by discussing.

Discussion : Teacher ask some questions like this:

T:They are runners.They like running.It’s their hobby.

1. Do you have any hobby? 2. What do you think of it?

3. Do your parents support your hobby? 4. Are you serious about it?

5. Does it get in the way of your schoolwork?

6. Do you succeed in dealing with the relationship between your hobby and your schoolwork?

Are you allowed to make your own decisions at home? What kind of decisions?

Should teenagers be allowed to make their own decisions?

Step 2. Show the students the teaching aims.

(1).To learn to use the new language in sentences of your own.

(2).To know the disagreements between LiuYu and his parents about Liu Yu’s hobby

(3).To learn some new words

Have the students know that the problem we talk is surely important and necessary.

First, look at the title of the passage. Answer "yes" or "no". Find out how many in your group agree with you. Then read the passage. Does your answer change? To order to be happy to learn the reading passage,let’s play a game .“Magic words”while show the game rules.

Then introduce” the Treasure case”.Let’s begin our journey to the treasure .

Step 3( Pre--reading

Make students know who and what the passage is talking about.And divide the class into four groups,what’s more,the most active group can get to the top of the tower.

Look at the photo, the title to the story on page 54. Then answer the questions.

1. What kind of person may “I” refer to ?

2. Guess the answer:Is the boy allowed to make his own decisions?

Step 4(While--reading

Have the students master the main idea of the text .Let the students sense what the disagreement comes from.

Underline the first sentence of every paragraph and read it.Find the main idea.

Read Paragraph 1 and answer the question below.

What can get in the Way of students' schoolwork?

Make the students know the specific information of LiuYu’s in Para. 2,4 Read Para. 2,4 and answer the questions below.

1.Who is LiuYu? What does he want to be?
