3. Distinguish the differences between ‘when’ and ‘while’.

4. Know how to show advice and reply to others’ advice.Teaching goal of my lesson :

My students are expected to be able to master the new words and phrases, and they can use them to express their ideas freely.

They can improve their listening and speaking ability by doing more practice.

They can ask for help and refuse others’ invitation politely.

They can use the words ‘when’ and ‘while’ correctly.

They can ask others for help or provide help for others in need.Teaching steps:

1.Greet with my students and show them what we will achieve in this lesson.

2.Presentation:

Show them how to use ‘when’ and ‘while’ correctly.Take some examples and pay attention to the differences between them.

3.Practice.

Look at the pictures and make sentences. For example, Darren was having a class while Michael was climbing a mountain. Darren was reading when Michael came in. (They are supposed to read the sentences fluently ,and they should know the differences between ‘when’ and ‘while’).

4.Listen to 1a and do some listening practice.

We should listen to the dialogue carefully and understand it well. We can know the compound sentences which are connected by ‘when’ and ‘while’. Finish the listening exercise correctly.

5.Practice and consolidation.

According to the dialogue, open their mouths and translate the sentences into English orally as fluently as possible.

6.Read and number the sentences.

Try to retell the dialogue with the topic sentences.

7.Ask and remark.

It’s possible for us to ask others for help when in need in English and we can also know how to remark others’ request politely.

8.Development of our listening.

Listen to a passage carefully and choose the best answer. We aim at developing our ability of listening.

9.Summarize my lesson and provide them homework.

We have to summarize what we have achieved in this lesson and we will do in our homework.

Teaching reflection:

Thanks to the cooperation with my students, I have succeeded in finishing all the teaching materials that I plan to present. They take active parts in every teaching step. We have achieved a lot through this lesson. First, we know how to use the words ‘when’ and ‘while’ correctly. According to the pictures, we can not only distinguish the differences between them but also make sentences successfully. Second, we can read and understand 1a well. At the same time , we can express our ideas freely with the sentence structures which are shown in 1a. We have done well in translating the sentences and reading them out as fluently as possible. Third, they can know how to ask others for help and reply to others’ request. Finally, we have done enough listening practice to develop their listening ability, and most of them give me correct answers.

However, there are so many teaching materials that I have to present them in limited time. It is a pity that I hardly have a chance to ask my students to answer my questions individually , so I have to talk with them after class or make a survey through homework.
