To be able to describe important events in the past and give background information

Aims of ability: To develop students’ basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

To encourage students to practice, participate, and co-operate in the classroom activities. And to get students have a better understanding of the importance of having one’s own dream.

To get students know something about radio and how to describe an event.

Moral education: Cultivate the students to find his or her dreams and to work hard for it. .

Teaching aids and materials: Blackboard, projector, multi-media computer system and handout.

Teaching procedure

Steps and TimingObjectivesProcedure Warming up(5mins)To warm up students and build a harmonious relationship with students.

1. Show students a picture and let them learn something about BBC. Then learn some new words. Along with the words give them the Chinese meanings . To lay a solid foundation for next learning and to make sure every student knows something about radio.

To learn the new words in the passage.Play the recorder and ask the students to listen and find out what they have heard. Reading(20minutes)To develop students’ reading abilities.

To let students to maintain object clauses. Post-reading

Show them a photo and ask them where they are likely to see the photo.

2. While-reading

Play the tape and ask the students to answer the questions. Then ask them to read the passage and complete the passages. Finally put the sentences into the right order according to the passage.

3. After-reading

Ask the students to underline the key phrases in the passage.

Ask the students to read the passage together. Writing (15 minutes)To develop students’ writing skills. Ask the students to imagine: now it’s the year of 2037.

What have you done in the past 20 years?

Ask the students to discuss it with their partners then finish their writing

Show their writings. Consolidation and summary (5minutes)Review what they have learnt. Homework:

1. Ask students to recite the passage;
