Step 1 Lead-in:

Greetings and free talk

T: Hello, boys and girls! I’m Miss Qiu. Nice to meet you!

Ss: Nice to meet you, too!

T: I am so happy today, because tomorrow is the weekend. I’m going to the supermarket. What are you going to do tomorrow?

Ss: I’m going to see a film/ watch TV/ do my homework.

T: Wow, these are our weekend plans.

(Ask Ss for their weekend plans to help introduce the topic of this lesson and free talk helps shorten the distance between T and Ss.)

Step 2 Pre-reading

1. Watch a video and ask questions.

T: Next let’s watch a video and answer the question: What is the holiday? (Play a video of a sand painting about Mid-Autumn Festival.) Ss: Mid-Autumn Festival. T: I love Mid-Autumn Festival, because I can get together with my family and eat mooncakes. What about you? Do you like it? What do your family do on this day?

(The vivid sand painting about Mid-Autumn Festival helps catch Ss’ attention and introduce the festival.)

Step 3 While-reading

Task 1: Read the diary and get the main idea.

(T points to the picture of mooncakes). T: Do you want mooncakes? Ss: Yes! T: But you have to finish the following five tasks. A task means a mooncake. You can get a special prize at last if you collect all the five mooncakes. Ok? Ss: Ok. T: We often get together and eat mooncakes on Mid –Autumn Festival. How about Wu Yifan? He keeps a diary. Let’s read the diary as quickly as possible to get the main idea.

(Ss’ interest in the following study is aroused by means of the collection of five mooncakes. And the gap filling can help them get the main idea of the text.)
