Step 1. Lead in

Introduce a man called Du Fuguo who protected other and lost his hands and eyes by showing some pictures and a video.

Step 2.Pre- reading

Learn some new words by showing ss phonetic symbols and change the stress mark.

2) After learning the new words, do a quiz to match the new words with its proper meaning.

Step 3 While- reading

By showing the title of the passage, have a guess about the content of the passage.

Listen to the tape and answer two questions:

Who’s the brave young man?

Did the fire burn the young man?

Read the passage by themselves aloud to answer 3 questions:

What did Lin Tao do on 10th May?

Why couldn’t Mrs Sun get out her house when it was on fire?

How long was Lin Tao in hospital?

Read the passage without reading out and do the T/F:

Lin Tao stayed at home with Mrs Sun on 10th May.

Mrs Sun was in her bedroom when the fire started.

Lin Tao put out the fire with a blanket.

Lin Tao was in hospital because the fire burned his legs.

Many people visited Lin Tao and gave him much money.

Read the passage together to put the sentences into correct order:

hear someone shouting ‘Fire! Fire!’

run to her bathroom

help her out of the fire

rush into the kitchen

see a lot of smoke from next door

be in hospital for two weeks

be at home alone

pour water over the clothes
