Task-basic Approach

Teaching procedures:

Step One Warming up

T: How will you spend your National Day Holiday ?

Will you travel to any places?

S: ….

T: And do you want to visit the places of interest in foreign countries?

Step Two Presentation

Introduce the interesting places to learn some new words and phrases.

The Harbour Bridge

The Opera House, Sydney,Australia

The Eiffel Tower

The River Seine ,Paris France

The Golden Gate Bridge , California, the USA

The White House Washington D.C. the USA president

At the same time review the old knowledge and present new knowledge by showing beautiful pictures and to attract the students’ interest.

Step Three Reading the postcards

Ask each group to spend one minute reading one of the postcards and underline the names of places it mentions, and then write the correct names of cities and countries beside them.

Encourage ss to take turns to introduce their own postcards to other groups and write the correct letters in the boxes. Ask students to read the postcards more carefully and answer questions:

Who sent the first postcard?

Which city did he go to?

What did he see there?

…..

Step Four Present Part B of welcome to the unit

T: After reading the postcards from his friends , Simon searched on the Internet for some information about places around the world. Which places of interest are Simon and Amy talking about?

1.Listen to the tape and try to answer: Which places of interest are Simon and Amy talking about? (The Golden Gate Bridge)

How long is the Golden Gate Bridge ? (About 1.7 metres)

How wide is the bridge ? (90 feet wide)

Present new words : wide , steel , ton

2.Read after the tape , read and try to remember it, then fill in the blanks
