StepI. Warm-up

Let students enjoy a song named “if”.

Listen to the song again and draw students’ attention to the sentences using subjunctive mood in the lyrics. Then, fill in the blanks.

Sentence 1: If a man _________ two places at one time, I _________ with you.

Sentence 2: If the world ____________ revolving, spinning slowly down to die, I __________ the end with you.

Definition:

虚拟语气是一种特殊的动词形式,常用于if非真实条件句,用来表示与现在、过去和将来事实相反,即说话人所说的不是事实,而是一种假设、猜测、愿望等等。

StepⅡ Explaining and Practice

Situation1: How to state an unreal present situation

1.Enjoy a short video called “Dahuaxiyou” and appreciate the lines in it.

“ If I were given another chance now, I would say three words to that girl—‘I love you’!

If it had to set a limit, I hope it would be ten thousand years! ”

2.Summarize the rules of stating an unreal present situation using subjunctive mood.

if从句主 句与现在事实相反一般过去时(be用were)would/should/could/might + 动词原形

3.More practice:

A: Why don’t our children and grandchildren visit us more often?

B: They don’t have much time. If they had more time, they would visit us more often.
