After this lesson, students will be able to:

a. master the structure of partial inversion by observing, discussing, drilling and summarizing ;

b. learn how to use the three common types of partial inversion through some drills and some meaningful situations.

Teaching Focus:

Three types of partial inversion:

1. 否定词置于句首的部分倒装结构；

2. Only +状语置于句首的部分倒装结构；

3. 省略if 的虚拟条件句中的倒装结构。

Teaching Difficult Point:

Learn how to invert a sentence by changing the sentence order and pay attention to what word is put in front of the subject to make partial inversion happen.

Teaching Methods: Guided discovery, Inductive Teaching Method

Teaching Aids: A multi-media computer and learning sheets.

Teaching Time: 40 minutes

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Greeting and word study (3m’)

1. Greet the students by self-introduction and lead in the words ending with “-ly”. Some of them are adjectives and others adverbs.

2. Students group the words and try to use some of them correctly by completing some sentences.

Step 2 Grammar

1. Presentation

Present two groups of sentences with some words of negative meaning in them. One group is in a statement form, the other is in an inverted form. Guide the students to discuss and find out the differences between them.

2. Students summarize the structure of inversion and tell the first rule of partial inversion.

3. Drills and consolidation exercises for the first rule.

The same methods are used in the three types of partial inversion.

Step 4 Summary

Help the students summarize what they have learned about partial inversion.
