2. Ability aims: To develop the students’ ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing and to improve their reading skills, skimming and scanning.

3. Emotion aims: By completing the task, the students can know the present and look forward to the future better. It also arouses their imagination. At the same time, let the students realize the importance of protecting the environment.

1.Compare life in the past, at present and in the future

2.What is life in the future like? What changes will take place?

Teaching Procedures:

Step = 1 ﹨ ROMAN I . Lead-in

The program “Dad, where are we going?” went to Lin Zhiying’s house now and houses of the ancient time.

Present students several pictures of Lin Zhiying’s house at present and houses of the ancient time. Ask them to express the differences between the present and ancient time. Then encourage them to imagine what houses will look like in the future. At the same time, show them some other aspects of life. Then ask them whether they want to go traveling into the future like mechanical cat “Duo La A Meng”?

Step = 2 ﹨ ROMAN II . Pre-reading

Predict what the text will talk about according to the title and pictures on Page 18. There are four choices. It lets the students make preparations for understanding the passage.

Step = 3 ﹨ ROMAN III . While-reading

Task 1. Fast reading (Skimming) Individual work

Let the students go through the text quickly and write the main idea or the important details of each paragraph. It is designed to get the students to have a better understanding of the content.

Task 2. Careful reading (Scanning) Individual work

Go through the text paragraph by paragraph to answer the following questions. It is designed to stress the students are the main body. It demands that the students complete every task to improve their ability to use language. It also cultivates their English thinking ability.

Step = 4 ﹨ ROMAN IV . Post-reading

1 (Group work and pair work) Divide the students into serval groups to have a debate and perform it.

(1)Suppose you were Li Qiang in the future and your mother is in the actual life. Make a phone call to your mother and tell her what will happen in the future. Discuss with your group member and two members perform it.

(2)Further discussion. Whether the changes in life are good or bad ? By doing this, most students can take their parts in the activity. They can express their own thoughts and practice their oral English.
