Teaching material analysis

1、Teaching content analysis:

The text chosen from Unit4 of the book 8 with the topic “Pygmalion , ” which mainly introduces a play written by George Bernard Show, which

describes a story like this: The professor Higgins made a bet with the captain Colonel Picbering that he could train a girl from the lower social class to be a gentle lady in the upper social class. And thus, something unexpected happened.

2、Teaching aim :

(1)knowledge aim:To learn the following useful words and expressions : hesitate, uncomfortable ,condemn , classify , fortune ,in disguise , generally speaking , in terms of , pass off as

(2)Ability aim:To train the students’ ability and skills on how to express their feeling.

(3)Emotion aim:To encourage students to develop interest in plays and know about one’s accent associated with one’s social class .

3、Teaching important points and difficult points .

(1)Teaching important points:To train the students’ reading ability , conclude the main idea of the passage and the ability to get the information independently as well , further to comprehend the text by doing the exercises.

(2)Difficult points:To train students to analyze the main roles with proper adjectives and explain the difficult sentences in an easy way .

Learning situation analysis :

1、Most students have known about the period by learning the new words , doing the pre-reading exercises as well as seeing the film “The Fairy Lady . ”

2、The more new words appearing in the text leads students have more difficulty in the process of reading .

3、How to have a good comprehension of the text according to the lions in plays is based on the accumulation of languages and cultural background knowledge .

Teaching methods:

According to the new curriculum for English of senior high school, the task-based and the students-centered teaching ways are adopted to make students learn by holding active learning ability, to make students finish the task of study in the way of exploring, independent thinking and cooperative learning.

Teaching procedure:

1. lead to the new class by appreciating some pictures. Ask students to

answer some questions to arise students ’ interest in the text .

2. Fast reading . Read the passage quickly and tell the main idea of the text .

3. Careful reading . Read the passage scene by scene , fill in the blanks and answer the questions .

4. Language points analysis .
