Most of students are at the age of 17—18. Having learned English for several years, they already have a certain ability to listen, speak, read and write. Moreover, to some extent, they are able to comprehend and analyze text by self-learning. Meanwhile, they may lack the relevant knowledge of cultural background.

With a series of teaching activities, teacher should develop students’ capabilities in using reading strategies, stimulate their interest in study and promote their enthusiasm in reading.

三、Teaching objects (教学目的)

After learning the passage, students can:

Know the story of Theseus and his qualities.

Appreciate some language usages and the true meaning of success by analyzing some sentences.

Promote their creativity by imaging another plot of the story.

四、Teaching key and difficult points (教学重难点)

1. Key points:(教学重点)

To help students understand the legend better by making the main idea clear.

2. Difficult points:(教学难点)

2. Situational teaching (情景教学)

During the teaching procedure, using discussion, speaking and presentation and appreciation of language usages can attract students to pay full attention to class. Teacher would like to change the traditional “teacher-centered”teaching way into “students-centered”.
