How to help the students know about California,especially the history of California to arouse their interest in English.

How to improve the students’ reading ability.

How to help the students know why the the US is called “ A land of diversity”.

= 4 ﹨ ROMAN ﹨ MERGEFORMAT IV .Teaching procedures:

Step1.lead in

First,show a map by using PPT and ask them questions:Which country’map is this? Then lead in the topic of unit1 and show more pictures and qustions.

Step2.Warming up

Ask the students :Why is the US called a land of diversity? Then tell them:If you want to know the answer,let’s go to the reading passage--California.

Step3.Skimming

Before skimming the passage,ask the students to say sth about California and give them a short introduction of it.

First,answer the question :What’s the topic of the text? While they are listenning.

Step4.Scanning

First,scan the text and answer the following questions:

How many kinds of people are mentioned in this text?

When did the native Americans start to live in California ?

Where did they come from?

What happened to them in the 16th century?

Second,decide “true or false” and fill in some forms according to the text shown on PPT.

Step 5.Summary
